Are you interested in learning Green Remodeling tips. Green remodeling can be done in any part of your home weather it’s a kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, installing energy efficient windows or low energy appliances. As a NJ home improvement contractor, I can tell you now that there are many ways to go green with your home improvement project.

One of the more popular ways to go green during a home addition project is to increase the R rating capacity of your standard 2×4 wall stud. If you are currently building an addition and the wall studs are being framed with 2×4’s, here are a few tips you can have your NJ Home Improvement Contractor use to increase your insulating value.

Normally when your NJ Home Improvement Contractor installs insulation in a 2×4 wall stud, he can either install an R-11, R-13 or even an R-15 batt insulation. In the past, to achieve a higher rating, your NJ Home Improvement Contractor would need to upgrade the wall framing to 2×6 wall studs which then an R-19 insulation could be installed. The difference would be very costly since the difference in 2×4 to 2×6 studs is more than double and you would also pay the difference for using an R-19 insulation as well.

With the advancement in green remodeling and green energy solutions, you can now have a closed cell spray foam insulation sprayed into the 2×4 bay. One inch of foam in most cases is comparable to an R-6 rating. With that being said, your NJ home improvement contractor can combine a 1″ closed cell spray foam and up to an R-15 insulation if needed. That ultimately will total an R rating of 21 within a 2×4 wall stud.

With the cost of energy at extremely high levels, the more insulated your home is, the better off you will be. Having your NJ Home Improvement Contractor utilize these Green remodeling tips can save your family money with a little preplanning. NJ KITCHEN

NJ KITCHEN REMODELING

NJ HOME IMPROVEMENT CONTRACTORS

If you are planning on installing a new kitchen in your Bergen County NJ Home and want to hire a NJ Home Improvement Contractor, here are a few tips to help you along the way.

There are homeowners that will hire a kitchen remodeling company to take care of the entire kitchen remodeling project. That NJ Kitchen contractor will remove the old kitchen, provide the homeowner with new cabinet and countertop samples. From beginning to end, the kitchen contractor will do all the legwork. At the same time, the NJ homeowner will be paying a large premium for this service. This service can be up to 40% above the actual cost of the job. You can save money on your kitchen remodeling project if you are willing to do some basic legwork.

Your NJ kitchen installation doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. There are ways for you to install a new kitchen and not break the bank. Pending the style of cabinetry, you will first want to find out where your local cabinet suppliers are located. If you plan on hiring a NJ Home Improvement Contractor, you may want to ask them which NJ Kitchen cabinet supplier that they use. Many times you can automatically receive a contractors discount if you are working with NJ Home Improvement Contractors that are associated with certain suppliers.

If you really want to save some money with your kitchen remodeling and want to put in the legwork required, once you know the color of cabinetry that you want to purchase, make a sketch of your NJ Kitchen layout and then call local suppliers. Ask them if they can provide a bid on cabinetry for your kitchen design in a cabinetry that they supply that is with your color specs. Provide an email for them to respond and they will provide a simple estimate for the type of cabinets that they can have access to that meets your color and other spec requirements.

At the same time you are shopping for cabinets, you should also ask the suppliers if they can provide an estimate on countertops. One supplier may be offering kitchen cabinets at a high price but may be able to offer the best price on granite countertops. So when it’s all said and done, you may purchase the cabinets from one company and the granite at another.

NJ HOME IMPROVEMENT CONTRACTOR – Replacement window Tips

Are you are interested in hiring a NJ Home Improvement Contractor for your window replacement project? Window replacements on your home can add value and decrease your homes energy consumption.

Some homeowners that hire NJ Home Improvement Contractors want to replace the existing windows with replacement windows. A replacement window is a window that is made specifically to a certain size. Your NJ Home Improvement Contractor will measure the existing window opening and have a new replacement window made to order.

Another way to replace your existing windows is to remove the window and increase the widow opening  by having your NJ Home Improvement Contractor change the headers above the window to make your window opening as large as you would like the window to be. This method is more costlier since your NJ Home Improvement Contractor needs to alter the interior and exterior or the window well. Your NJ Home Improvement Contractor will need to not only remove and replace the header to a sufficient size, but also he will have to reinstall the removed exterior siding and put the interior back together around the window. This will involve reinstalling insulation, sheetrock, and the necessary trim work. For these reasons, installing a larger replacement window can cost more money.

With a standard replacement window, it is a bit easier for your NJ Home Improvement Contractor to install. Your NJ Home Improvement Contractor will measure all the windows that need to be replaced. Then he will have the replacement windows custom made to the sizes that he has measured. Once the windows are ready for installation your NJ Home Improvement Contractor will arrive on the job location and change many of the windows within one day. Pending the amount of windows in your home, your replacement window project should be finished within one or two days.

When installing a replacement window, your NJ Home Improvement Contractor will remove the interior window stop molding. After that, he will then remove the upper and lower sash’s. After caulking the opening to accept the new replacement window, your NJ Home Improvement Contractor will insert the replacement window into the window well until it fits flush against the window opening. He will then fasten the replacement window with the necessary screws. Usually four screws will do the trick. Now just reinstall the removed window stop molding and your window replacement is complete.

NJ HOME IMPROVEMENT CONTRACTOR TIPS

. How can your NJ Home Improvement Contractor make your add a level look unique and give you great curb appeal in Bergen County New Jersey. Well first your NJ Home addition should be built by an experienced NJ Home Improvement Contractor. A NJ Contractor that specializes in add a level conversions such as cape cod and ranch conversions.

How can your NJ Home Improvement Contractor add curb appeal to your add a level? .That is a problem that many homeowners have throughout the planning stage as they review their architectural plans. You don’t want your add a level in Bergen County New Jersey to look as if you had just built a box on top of your home. You know what I am talking about. Having what looks like a box with roof shingle built on top of your ranch or cape. Here are a few tricks to dress up the front of your home.

As a NJ Home Improvement Contractor, that has built hundreds of add a levels throughout Bergen County NJ, I like to add accent gables on the roof just above the 2nd floor windows to accentuate those upper windows. It looks even better if the upper windows are mulled meaning that there are 2 windows put together on the left and right side. From the street , this looks really nice and automatically eliminates that box look.

From here I like to match the roof pitch of the accent roofs with an entry portico just above the front door. Again, from the street, you are now looking at the upper accent gable roof’s and now you have the portico entry roof to match. throw in the portico columns and now this house is getting closer to completion but we are not finished yet.

Next, where the portico roofline ends, we will build what’s termed an eye brow roof just where the 1st floor and 2nd floor meet. The eyebrow will run across the front of the house and break up the front wall. After the eye brow is shingled and sided, between all the above tricks, your home will look amazing and have a great curb appeal.

Contact your NJ Home Improvement Contractor if you have any questions or concerns.
